Well, while not 100%, either way, what's gone on, almost regardless of the final outcome, it is staggering what this group has done.

And yes there has been blood shed. I'm sure quite a bit more than what's been reported so far, but it could have been an all out blood bath.

Perhaps we should have sent in our Special Ops team: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFylX5MUAOA&;feature=related

(yes, more post modifications are always a good thing)

Your optimism is a good balance for my pessimism. Certainly the rumours that Mubarak will resign shortly are growing all the time. The question is, of course, what's going to fill the power vacuum his going will leave? The thing about the Egyptian protests is that while they have been entirely anti the current regime they have absolutely not been pro anything else on offer.

There really isn't much of anything "better" that has been offered. The protesters are demanding a new constitution and a complete restructuring of the systems in place. A revolution of that magnitude would really require a dissolution of the current government, the first step for which is the resignation of Mubarak.

Seems more likely that the Egyptian Military will take control before any significant "civil" changes can take place. They are the recipients of $2+ billion US aid a year and I would bet on the military doing whatever it can to ensure that this aid keeps flowing.

I wonder what happens when the protesting masses realize that the military isn't really on their side?

Or perhaps more interestingly, what manner of a change of government in Egypt satisfies both the interests of the protesters and protests US interests?

Not pro-anything else? I hear it from good sources that they are all united in wanting the KFC in Tahir Square to re-open.

Power to the people. And to the manufacturers of Lipitor.

You are not bombarded with pharmaceutical commercials in the Queen's fair realm?

Good one.

Lipitor is the lastest over-priced cholesterol drug here that doesn't work much better than the generic lovastatin. Working in the pharmaceutical industry can oftentimes be rather depressing. Belly of the Beast kind of thing.

Still chuckling over the Transformer quip.

If I recall, generic lovastatin is available without a prescription in the UK. Sometimes you guys can make us look really dumb.

Reminds me of the Viagra gag:

"Can you get it over the counter?"
"Only if you take two."
